Dental Crowns and Bridges

When you have decayed, missing, or fractured teeth, it impacts more than just the appearance of your smile; your dental health is also in jeopardy for several reasons.

Compromised teeth can make chewing and eating food difficult, impacting your nutrition. Missing teeth may affect your tooth and bite alignment and disrupt speech patterns. It may also impact your quality of life and your personal and professional goals.

Dental crowns and bridges help repair decayed or damaged teeth, while a bridge replaces adjacent missing teeth. Dr. Marshall has helped hundreds of patients restore their smiles with a dental crown or bridge in Kingsport.

Dental Crowns: Restore Function and Aesthetics to Your Teeth

Dr. Marshall may recommend a tooth crown in these situations:

  • To rebuild a tooth that’s had root canal treatment
  • To strengthen a fractured, broken, or weakened tooth
  • To cover a tooth and improve aesthetics
  • To replace a large, broken-down filling
  • As a single tooth restoration for a dental implant

A crown fits over your remaining healthy tooth structure like a protective cap. This preserves the integrity of the root and also restores chewing function.

Dr. Marshall customizes ceramic porcelain crowns to blend flawlessly with surrounding teeth, which complements your smile. Your crown can last several years with the proper home care and regular dental checkups.

Dental Bridges: Replace One or Multiple Adjacent Teeth Without Surgery

A bridge relies on two dental crowns to anchor artificial teeth in between. The crowns attach to healthy teeth, while the prosthetic teeth fill in the gaps left by missing teeth.

A bridge is also made of customized ceramic porcelain that provides durability for restored chewing function and aesthetics for a renewed smile. Replacing missing teeth with a bridge also protects your dental health by maintaining tooth alignment for optimum bite function.

The Crown and Bridge Process

Getting a dental crown or bridge is a similar process that requires two visits to Marshall Dentistry.

During the first visit, Dr. Marshall prepares your tooth for the final restoration by taking impressions and creating a temporary version for you to wear. At the same time, a trusted dental lab fabricates your final version.

Whether you’re completing a crown or bridge, the process takes two to three weeks for the dental lab to complete. When your final restoration is ready, you’ll return to Marshall Dentistry to have Dr. Marshall permanently place it. He’ll also complete any needed adjustments at that time to ensure that your bite functions properly.

Now you’re ready to eat, chew, smile, and talk confidently!
