Preventive Dentistry

Protecting your healthy and happy smile is one of the best ways to promote overall health and well-being. After all, science has shown us clear connections between oral health and overall health, so looking out for your smile also means protecting your general health.

Personalized Preventive Care for Your Unique Smile

At Marshall Dentistry, we understand that our patients have unique and specific needs, so we never take a one-size-fits-all approach to dentistry. Instead, we spend time getting to know our patients so we can provide the personalized dental care we believe everyone deserves.

We’re your partners and mentors in optimal dental health, so we can provide guidance on treatment procedures, products, and techniques for optimizing home care and customized hygiene and checkup schedules.

Our dental practice has proudly served the Kingsport community for over 50 years, and we look to build long-term relationships with our patients so we can guide you through every aspect of your dental health.

The Oral Systemic Connection

Periodontal health has been closely linked with overall health because we understand that the bacteria causing gum disease can also contribute to the inflammation causing these non-dental systemic health concerns:

  • Diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • Dementia
  • Arthritis
  • High blood pressure
  • Stroke
  • Complications during pregnancy

Consistent preventive teeth cleanings and checkups are the best way to protect your dental and overall health. During your routine exams, Dr. Marshall can detect gum disease in its earliest stages when it is less complicated to treat.

The Advantages of a Healthy Smile

Preventive dentistry minimizes your chances of developing tooth decay and gum disease. It also makes you aware of conditions that could be problematic in the future, like wear or breakdown of current restorations. This protects you from painful tooth emergencies and higher treatment costs and promotes a problem-free smile and a fuller, healthier life.

What to Expect During Preventive Checkups and Teeth Cleanings in Kingsport

During your checkup, Dr. Marshall will thoroughly examine your teeth, mouth, and soft tissues to spot potential problems with current restorations and early signs of gum disease and tooth decay. He will also screen you for oral cancer, which we have a better chance of treating the earlier we detect it.

During your professional teeth cleaning, our hygienist removes the plaque buildup contributing to tooth decay and gum disease. Our hygienist can also recommend oral care products and techniques to help you elevate your home care routine.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most healthy patients can maintain their dental health and beautiful smiles by visiting their Kingsport dentist every six months for professional teeth cleanings and checkups.

If you're managing gum disease, you may need additional cleanings throughout the year to help you keep your condition under control. Unfortunately, there's no cure for advanced gum disease, but our team can help you manage your condition to maintain your dental health.

Dr. Marshall will determine the ideal teeth cleaning schedule to help you achieve and maintain optimal dental health.

The Importance of Preventive Dental Appointments

Patients often wonder why they should visit their dentist routinely if they have no dental problems or their teeth don't hurt. Dentistry is all about prevention. These visits help us protect your smile and avoid problems like gum disease and tooth decay that can become more problematic and costly if you ignore them.

Protecting your dental health also guards your overall well-being. Gum disease has been closely linked with other health concerns like heart disease, diabetes, dementia, and complications during pregnancy.

Let us help you protect your smile, dental health, and overall well-being! Book your next professional teeth cleaning and checkup in Kingsport by calling our team at (423) 247-5125.

Preventive Dentistry Technology

Digital X-Rays and Sensors

Digital x-rays capture an internal image of your teeth that helps Dr. Marshall diagnose problems like tooth decay and gum disease in their earliest stages. Digital images are readily available for our team to review and share with patients for quicker and more accurate diagnosis.

Since they emit 80 percent less radiation than film x-rays, they are safer for our patients. They're also safer for the environment since they require no chemicals to develop.

Intraoral Camera

Imagine seeing your teeth as Dr. Marshall does! You could see tooth decay up close and understand why a dental filling is essential to restore your tooth.

Our slim intraoral camera fits inside your mouth and captures color images of your teeth and gums so we can share exactly what's happening with your smile. This tool helps you make educated decisions about the best treatment for your needs.
